Remembering Marsha Carldon

Past District Governor Marsha Carldon

Marsha Carldon was a highly respected Rotarian whose dedication to Service Above Self spanned decades. A member and past president of the Rotary Club of Mountainside, she later served as District Governor of Rotary District 7510 in 2002–2003, becoming one of only a handful of women to lead the district at that time.

Born in Madison, Wisconsin, Marsha came from a Rotary family, both her father and grandfather were Rotarians. She served as a corpsman in the U.S. Navy before building a career in advertising and marketing. An accomplished pianist and teacher, she frequently performed at Rotary district events and interfaith services.

Throughout her Rotary career, Marsha held numerous district leadership roles, including District Trainer, Foundation Chair, and chair or co-chair of committees focused on membership, public relations, PolioPlus, literacy, district conferences, and The Rotary Foundation. Her leadership and commitment inspired countless Rotarians throughout New Jersey.

In 2015–2016, Marsha received Rotary International Service Above Self Award, Rotary’s highest honor for individual service. At the time, only about 130 Rotarians worldwide received the award, recognizing her extraordinary commitment to humanitarian service and ethical leadership.

Marsha’s legacy will live on through the lives she touched, the leaders she mentored, and the countless Rotary projects she championed. She truly embodied Rotary’s motto: Service Above Self.
